Because a plan for short-term storage at Park 720 Vehicle Storage can unexpectedly become a long-term necessity, we suggest that you go through all the storage steps, no matter how soon you expect to be back.
Wash It Down
Road dirt and grime can dull and damage the finish of a vehicle or boat. Park 720 provides a free wash down area for our customers to use.
Clean It Out
Remove all perishable items. We suggest removing all foodstuffs, including boxed and canned goods. Clean out the fridge, turn it off and leave the door open.
Top Off the Tank
Condensation forms in an empty tank and can cause exposed metal to corrode and rust. Add a can of stabilizer to coat the tank (check in any automotive section for how much and best choice for your needs), then fill ‘er up ... almost. Leave a little room to allow for expansion in warm weather.
Empty the Holding Tanks
Park 720 provides a free dump station on site for customers to use. For how-to information, check Park 720’s dump station tips.
Tend to the Tires
Use a non-petroleum lubricant (e.g., lithium grease) on tires to prevent drying and cracking. (Don’t forget the trailer!) Spray the lubricant onto a rag, not directly onto the tires, and rub it in by hand for a thin, thorough and even application.
Protect the Wipers
Prop windshield wipers on small rubber balls tucked between the wiper arm and windshield. This no-contact trick protects wiper blades against deterioration and prevents those ugly black lines of dirt and debris that accumulate along windshield blades.
Shield Against the Sun
Use sunshades to block the windshield and windows. Sun and heat will damage interiors. It’s cheap to prevent, expensive to repair.
Disconnect the Battery? Maybe
Weigh the merits of disconnecting a battery before you decide what to do. Disconnecting the battery in a car, truck or motor home ensures that all electrical devices and lights are off. In addition to providing a measure of safety, it eliminates battery drain. A boat that’s stored in open space, however, can accumulate water from rain, and a boat that depends on a bilge pump needs a battery to work.
Check It Out, Lock It Up
The last pass: Walk around your vehicle or boat. Make sure windows are closed and locked and interior lights are off, check for trash and especially bottles (plastic beverage bottles will expand and leak in heat), take one last peek for packed and personal items, then LOCK IT UP (something our on-site managers discover many forget to do).
